Review: EnerGenie MiHome Adapter Plus & Home Automation Gateway

21st December 2015 - We Got Served (blog)

The Adapter Plus follows a fairly typical pass-through smart plug format. There is a bulge above the actual plug connection which houses the circuitry, and in this case, has a power button, and LED indicator. Although typical, this design isn't great...

  1. This thing works great..I brought it to give access to a few features at home (lights and sockets etc) whilst I was out and about… It couldn’t have been simpler. Simply plug the Hub box in and connect it to your network, sign-up for an account, enter the number for your hub.. voila! You can now begin registering the plugs etc…I’m not interested in the Remote Controller it comes with, so can’t comment on that, but the phone app works brilliants.. there are some add-ons which you need to use their Web Portal to configure, but again its painless – For anybody having problems, RFTM, or ask for a replacement. The only additional thing I’d really like to see, is them producing a domed IP camera which works from the same app and maybe a video door bell!

  2. hit and miss, wouldn’t reliably control the items that i linked to it. application has no state awareness of the connected devices either. wouldnt recommended it unfortunately. On the positive side – the application on IOS was very easy to use and navigate.

  3. Omg I love these. Perfect with Alexa just download an app and sync it up. We now can tell Alexa to turn on and off the Xmas tree, the lamp in the lounge and our daughters room.

  4. I feel tricked and stolen from. It states that these work with Mi Home. I took that to mean Xiaomi Mi Home. They do not work with Xiaomi Mi Home. Why are Energenie using the same name for their smart home system is Xiaomi. Maybe I’m stupid but I’m very very annoyed about this – I feel so so tricked. Hopefully this note though will help others. This product does not work with Xiaomi MI Home.

  5. Junk don’t waste your time. Ive just returned them. They don’t work properly. As other users have said they rarely toggle on and off.

  6. Very easy to setup. Gateway is much smaller than I thought which is good.Downloaded the emergenie- mihome app on my iPad and created a free account. Plugged the gateway into my router. The flashing light is a bit annoying but at least it lets you know the status and you could always hide the gateway out of sight. Plugged each socket into the wall and paired to the gateway in seconds. Hen I ave each device a name e.g. Lamp, fan, treadmill. I opened up the energenie mihome app and manually pressed each device on with the app and each socket turned on or off easily.Next I got the remote and paired each numbered button to each socket. Just hold the remote on button number one while pressing the pair button on the socket and you are good to go. Each device paired straight away and turned on and off with the remote unit.Next I wanted my Amazon echo dots in each room to control my devices via my voice command. I opened up my Alexa app on my iPad, went to skills. Searched or energenie mi home skill and enabled it. Next I searched for new devices on my Alexa app and found them straight away. Next I tried voice commands with the echo dot. Alexa turn on lamp. The lamp came on straight away.Setup was very easy. The system can easily be expanded. I am going to purchase further plugs. I have already purchased the twin wall socket, single light switch and the motion sensor. Can’t wait to install them. These sockets are much cheaper than the wemo sockets. Currently three sockets for twenty three pound and almost fourty pound for one wemo socket. The only annoying thing I found was the bright red light on the front of else sockets as opposed to the nice gentle glowing blue light on the wemo sockets. I use these sockets to control the devices in my home theatre which is dark due to the projector and the sockets can easily be viewed. The wemo blue light is hardly noticeable but the energenie bright red light glares at you. A piece of tape will sort that out for me unfortunately.Tip. Currently if you buy an gateway on its own on Amazon it is priced at almost fifty three pounds but if you search for the gateway plus three sockets it is only fifty pounds. Three pound cheaper plus three sockets extra. Bargain!
