I tried an alternative French product which was useless as its wifi range was inefficient for my house; also their support was only via email. What a difference with Tado. UK telephone support number, probably going through to Germany, but answered quickly and helpful technicians. Product is great. Plugged in the bridge and registered within a couple of minutes. Fitted the first valve and it synced straight away. The second valve had a slight problem due to it being an older firmware. Tado technical support very apologetic and downloaded an update direct to the valve and problem was resolved with 5 minutes. Great, now for the real test, when the heating was due to come on. WOW! Heating is exactly as we want it. The App works well – take some time to play with it and understand it, it’s not difficult – and controls the heating beautifully.I move one of the valves to the far end of the house – no problem, Tado use Mesh technology so range is not an issue and even the furthest radiator works and connect with the bridge. The kit is stylish and looks good. Have now ordered a further 12 valves for the rest of my house.I also love the empty house feature. Had set it up on my mobile phone, but not on my wife’s phone. I was away from the house so the heating was automatically switched down to minimum. Wife arrived home and rang me to tell me that the heating wasn’t working, so I simply overrode the settings from my office.Does exactly what it says on the box, works well, good support and will be saving me loads of cash – what is there not to like!
Works well but is tricky to install on Danfoss thermostatic valves. The RA type, generally the most recent ones are quite problematic. The issue is that the plastic adapter is the wrong size for the RA termination which means if you use the supplied adapter you cannot tighten fully the adapter on the valve ending as if you do then it becomes impossible to screw on the Tado. Emailed advice from Tado, I quote, “don’t tighten the adapter or go and buy a 3rd. party adapter” which of course means additional costs.As for the app on an iPhone it’s quite neat but still a work in progress as it lacks “summer cycling” to avoid stuck valves but the geo-fencing works well.Note that that only 8 zones (ie rooms or spaces in the house) are available which needs bearing in mind if you have a big house but each zone can have up to eight [I’ve got 3 of these in two of my zones] valves. In such a case one of the valves in the zone acts as a master for the others.Bottom line, will continue adding these units to all my radiators as it’s clearly saving me money ( I have 10 so far).
