Wemo Insight Switch, Wi-Fi Smart Plug

Overview & Key Features

Wemo now works with Android and iOS Smart Devices

The Belkin Wi-Fi enabled Wemo Switch lets you turn electronic devices on or off from anywhere. The Wemo Switch uses your existing home Wi-Fi network to provide wireless control of TVs, lamps, stereos, heaters, fans and more. Simply download the free Wemo App from the Google Play Store or the Apple App store, plug the switch into an outlet in your home, and plug any device into the switch. You’ll be able to turn that device on or off using your smartphone or tablet (running Android 4.1 and later or iOS 8 or higher). You can set schedules for your devices and control them remotely using a mobile internet connection. You can also add additional switches to your home to control more devices.

Turn Your Electronics On or Off from Anywhere – over Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G

The Belkin Wemo Switch works with the free Wemo App to give you wireless control of your home appliances and electronics. Whether you want to turn on a light from your kitchen, front yard, or office, Wemo Switch has you covered.

To get started, simply download the free Wemo App from the Google Play store or the Apple App store to your smartphone or tablet Next, plug the Wemo Switch into an outlet in your home and plug any device or appliance into the switch. Connect the Wemo Switch to your home Wi-Fi network and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation. Now you can turn your home electronics/appliances on or off from anywhere.

The Switch also operates over mobile Internet, which means you can control home devices from anywhere you have an Internet, 3G or 4G connection.

Do more with the Wemo App

The free Wemo app makes it easy to set schedules for appliances and electronics in your home. Use your smartphone or tablet to program a fan to turn on or off at a certain time of day, at sunrise or sunset all over your existing 3G / 4G / Wi-Fi connection.

It’s a Mod, Mod World

One of the beauties of Wemo is its modularity. Control one lamp or all of them. Dip a toe into smart-home tech, or dive in headfirst. There’s a Wemo for every situation: Light Switches for your porchlight or those swanky recessed ceiling lights in the man-cave. Switches for your plug-in lamps and fans. Insight Switches for devices you want to monitor for energy savings. Control them all from your app, with no hub. Go forth and modulize.

Works with Amazon Alexa

Wemo Switch and Insight Switch work seamlessly with Amazon Echo, Amazon Dot and Amazon Tap to give you hands-free, vocal control over your stuff. Want to turn off the fan? Turn on the floor lamp? Shut off the TV in the kids’ room before their brains melt? When Wemo and Alexa work together, all you have to do is speak your mind. Literally.

Wemo works with Nest Learning Thermostat

Nest’s “home” and “away” modes can tell your Wemo switches what you’re up to. If you’re out, your desk fan turns off so the cat doesn’t lose another inch of its tail. When you return, that fake Tiffany lamp your Grandma left you is burning brightly to welcome you home. And you can adjust basic Thermostat settings without leaving the Wemo app, thus conserving valuable thumb-tapping time.

Works with IFTTT

“If This, Then That” is a free web-based service that lets you do an amazing array of things with your Wemo. Visit IFTTT.com to find “recipes” for making Wemo turn lights on and off based on real-world events, send you push notifications about device activity, or take advantage of your phone’s geo-fencing capabilities to know if you’re home or away. Visit IFTTT and discover all the exciting recipes you can create with Wemo + IFTTT.

  1. EDIT: Having tried other much cheaper Chinese manufacturers, I think this is overpriced garbage. EWemo switches work 100% of the time for me. Since I got them I have never had Alexa or Google home not understand the command to turn them on or off, but this is unavailable half the time.Original review:It is a good switch that (mostly) works OK with the app. It turns on well on the timers, but the off timer doesn’t always work which is annoying. I use it with Google home and it works (this is my best, but probably inaccurate, estimate) 75% of the time. It often says “switch isn’t available” and km forced to shut it off manually like a caveman.

  2. We’ve got a WeMo switch which gets used all around the house. It’s great when it works, but sometimes it just doesn’t work, for no real reason. Sometimes I have to hard reboot it, sometimes I have to set it up from scratch again and reconnect it to the WiFi.People will suggest WiFi issues or similar, but I have other WiFi devices on my network which never have as many issues, I also have Zigbee smart plugs which are much more reliable. When it is connected to my WiFi then it’s really quick, really easy to use and the integration with SmartThings, Google Home, Nest, IFTTT is great!

  3. Superb plugs, and the most reliable of the ones I’ve tried. They hold the network well, you can take a pic of the device you’re controlling, which makes it easier than remembering the names of things, and they work with Nest, Alexa and probably plenty of other HA kit too. They’re quite wide, and may baulk the other socket on a 2-gang, and can impede access to the switch depending on placement, but that’s a minor thing. They could also be cheaper, and I’ve found prices ranging from £32 to £59 online. They’re excellent value at the lower end of the price range, so get some.

  4. I think this is one of the most important information for me. And i am glad reading your article. But want to remark on some general things, The site style is great, the articles is really great : D. Good job, cheers

  5. Hi! I’ve been following your site for a while now and finally got the bravery to go ahead and give you a shout out from New Caney Tx! Just wanted to tell you keep up the fantastic job!
